Your Invitation to Our Social at Whitby's Home Sweet Home Festival

Update July 21, 2025: Download this file [pdf, opens in a new window] to access all street / parking closures for the day of the event.

Announcement: We are hosting a TRUNK SHOW of some brand new lines and colours of Universal Yarns that we have never had in the shop before! Come by and check them out - the yarns are with us only for a short time, 1-2 weeks (end date to be confirmed), starting Wednesday of this week (July 23rd).

----

Calling All Crafters of Humanity! We're looking for our loud and proud ambassadors of Artisanthropy, because we need your help with our upcoming downtown Whitby celebratory festival - the Home Sweet Home Festival.

The festival will see the street out front of the whole of the four corners closed down for pedestrian-only traffic, and we want to show visitors what we’ve got - so YOU, our Creative, Crafty, Incredible Socialites, are welcome to join us from 10 am until 4 pm as we set up on the street with our chairs, and our stitching. This is not a usual social - it’s a full-day, extended, free drop-in - come by and leave when you feel like it, come back again later - whatever you want. What we’re offering:

  • A canopy set up for shade/shelter from any potential raindrops

  • Ice cold drinks served throughout the day (our treat!) to help you stay hydrated

  • Extra chairs for anyone who wishes to join in as they walk by

  • Tina and / or Helen will be outside along with you to chat and host throughout the day

  • $15 paid into your shop account (on us - our gift to you! the social is FREE to attend, this is our way of saying THANK YOU to you for spending time with us and helping to promote us to the crowd!), to spend on anything in the shop, at your leisure!

What do we ask in return?

  • Bring whatever you're working on that uses yarn or materials you've purchased at Artisanthropy - no matter how small. If not the yarn, the needles. If not the fabric, the DMC floss or sewing needle. Something you can turn to when conversation sparks.

  • Consider bringing projects you've completed with materials you purchased from us - whether you usually stick to premium, hand-dyed yarns, are a mega-fan of our budget-friendly yarns, or maybe you're super into amigurumi and only use Catona and Ricorumi - whatever it is you've made, bring it along to show off to passersby. Wouldn't it be amazing if we could all don a summer top we've made??? Or pair of socks... or a shawl (but it'll probably be too hot, haha!). Hats, anyone? Market bags! Amigurumi artists, you can bring a cute doll, animal or toy you've made.

  • Please, PLEASE help us promote Artisanthropy! Encourage conversations with passersby about:
    • what it's like to attend socials at Artisanthropy
    • the connections you've made here, whether at socials or just in the shop; perhaps you've made new friends, or re-met someone from your past inside
    • the things you've learned here, whether in class, or at a social, that helped get you where you are today with your craft
    • your positive experiences with shopping at Artisanthropy, finding the specific help you needed for your project/pattern, etc.

Generally, we ask you to help engage visitors to come in and look around, or to join us for that day’s, or future, socials or classes. There’s room for all, of course, but this moment is about Artisanthropy - we need your help spreading the word about us. We'll have business cards, stickers and flyers for you to hand out to everyone who shows the slightest bit of interest.

  • If you can manage it, please bring a camping/portable chair for yourself. We'll only be able to set up a limited number of chairs.

Let’s make this a festival no one will forget!

Note: parking will likely be limited, and many spots will be filled, due to the street closures. We recommend you park further away and walk in, or just leave your car at home and walk over, if either of those options are possibilities for you.

Oh I’mgoing to miss it. Not in the area until the 30th. I really hope it’s a great success.
