Tata for now, Cobourg

Tata for now, Cobourg

Dear beloved artisans of Cobourg,

My partner and I have come to a difficult decision regarding Artisanthropy Cobourg: at 5 PM on December 21st, 2019, Artisanthropy Fibre Arts will close its doors in downtown Cobourg for good.

It has been a trying year, and we came to this decision very slowly, after having considered all sides, for almost the entire year. Unfortunately, the challenges we face have only continued to mount, and with our young family at home, and our other shop in Whitby, we decided it was time to find ways to better protect our mental and physical health, and refocus our energies so that Artisanthropy can flourish into what I had always envisioned: as a community space for fibre artisans to gather, collaborate, inspire and learn from one another.

Please know, we are not closing the business. Artisanthropy will continue to provide online shopping with free shipping to Canada & the USA on orders $75+; our Whitby location will continue to be open as before; and we will continue to have a presence at a number of the fibre festivals you all know and love across Ontario and Quebec, when possible, including both Peterborough Fibre Arts Festival, and PEC Fibre Fest. We hope you will continue to choose us for your fibre needs, at these festivals, online and when you travel through Whitby.

I thank each and every one of you whom has ever walked into our shop, browsed our wonderful product selection, and introduced yourselves to my darling little girl when she was with me, for your support, for your herstories (and once in a while, histories) about what fibre arts have meant to you in your lives. You have enriched my experience of downtown Cobourg, at once a beautiful town with a combined European and Southern American flair that I will miss dearly, but with so much layered beneath that veneer. I have learned so much in our time there, and I will surely miss it.

When I look back at the time before we started Artisanthropy Cobourg, I recall a dream I had, of looking at properties in which to begin our shop. We found ourselves walking around a small, waterfront town with a water sports shop nearby with a dark green sign on it. I chuckle when I think of how this manifested into our location almost directly opposite Green Canoe Outfitters, in the beachfront town of Cobourg. Clearly, it was Meant To Be, even if only for this short time.

As a result of our closure, everything in our shop is now on sale*. Please note our reduced hours as we approach our final closure.

Once again, thank you for being with us on this journey. We hope you’ll continue along with us as we evolve. We look forward to continuing to inspire fibre artists in Northumberland County, Ontario, across Canada, and worldwide, for many years to come.

* Dec. 11-14, 2019: Enjoy our discount of buy 1 and get the 2nd at 50% off the original ticket price (any item in the Cobourg shop; second item is of equal or lesser value than the first; doesn’t have to be the same product; in-stock items only; sale not available online, on backordered items, or on items ordered from Whitby for pickup in Cobourg).
