Our Top 5 Favourite Crochet Patterns

Our Top 5 Favourite Crochet Patterns

We asked our team members to give us their favourite crochet patterns, and this is what they sent.

#1 Lost In Time Shawl

Lost in Time shawl crochet pattern made with Scheepjes Whirl Colour Turkish Delight at Artisanthropy.ca by Vickie, shown wearing her creation

If you have visited us in-shop, you may have met Vickie. While she prefers to freehand a lot of her projects, she shared this published shawl pattern featuring a wonderful mix of chains, clusters & post stitches. It can be repeated to make it any size, and it can be made with any weight of yarn - just adjust your hook size accordingly. The pattern calls for Scheepjes Catona, but Vickie used Scheepjes Whirl in Turkish Delight. As she puts it, it's her preference for easy wash and wearable garments that are comfortable and lightweight with delightful colours.

#2 Ribbed Beanie

This next one is perfect for beginners. It's just a rectangle with all half double crochet stitches, and with the right yarn it can turn out amazing! Bri, our social media expert, chose Estelle Colour Flow in Gumball, a beautifully vibrant self-striping yarn.

#3 Painted Canyon Cardigan

Karin is our email expert, putting together most of what you get in your inbox each week. She is an avid crochet artist and although she only started crocheting a few years ago has taken the craft by storm, and as such had lots to share with us for this post.

Recently she created this fun kid's cardigan for her daughter using Urth Monokrom Worsted in purple. She did size up one size of the pattern, and added extra rows on the collar, in order to use this yarn, as its gauge was slightly smaller than the pattern called for. So for a size 4/5 she actually made the size 6/8 listed. The pattern comes in all sizes from preemie/newborn to adult! Karin's is still awaiting some small buttons she is custom-making for it (you can find her larger ones here: https://www.artisanthropy.ca/collections/flicker-bug-buttons) but we think it looks adorable already.

#4 Devin Beanie

Karin wanted to added this second pattern too. It's one of her favourite hat patterns and she has used it repeatedly for gifts year over year since finding it. It uses front and back double crochet stitches which gives it almost a double thickness (while only crocheting one layer). She used the same yarn as the sweater above, Urth Monokrom Worsted in purple (her daughter's favourite colour, if you hadn't guessed). But plans to make more with some of the amazing Urth Uneek Worsted colourways this year.
