Big News!

From Christina:

It's Thursday night, February 26th, 2026, and here I am, 10 years, 2 weeks and 2 days after my daughter was born, looking at the store I launched exactly 4 months and 20 days into her life - on July 1st of 2016, Canada Day. I had intended for it to be a way to employ me while I raised my daughter and, later, my son, and that's exactly what it allowed me to do. I remember the early days of Cobourg, which we procured in early 2017, dragging my suitcase with my camera and my laptop in it, whilst pushing the stroller with my daughter in it, to the shop there from a nearby parking lot. I would spend many hours there working away, mostly at the website since we had practically no customers there, with her sleeping on my back in her harness. I remember feeling so, so stressed out, as I had no clue if this little baby (the second one, Artisanthropy) was going to go anywhere at all.

Fast forward to today, and here we are - with over 23,000 customers served throughout Canada, and across the globe from Australia to Russia, through South Korea to Germany, the UK and even Mexico. We've got yarns, needles, hooks and other threads and tools from all over, too, and every day we reach more folks. Each day, customers come in who say they've never been in before, and they're so glad we're here, and they're excited by what we carry. For all the challenges I've faced during this journey, it is absolutely just so swell to have been able to do this, and bring this all to you, and do this for you and be a part of something so much bigger than just myself.

Tonight was my last time closing the doors as the owner of Artisanthropy Fibre Arts. But - while am saying goodbye - this is NOT goodbye for the shop! We have a lovely, amazing human being whom has decided Artisanthropy is now her calling, and whom will lead it into its next phase - bringing renewed energy, enthusiasm, and resources to this woman-led initiative.

Before I sign off for good - thank you, thank you, from the absolute bottom of my heart, to all of you for your support, good wishes and kind friendships over the years. Thank you to the staff whom have made Artisanthropy what it is today - Helen, Tara, Vickie, and others from long before. And of course, to our suppliers, whom have provided such excellent service and products to us that we didn't have to keep seeking those things elsewhere.

Most of all, thank you to Elizabeth, for seeing what we've grown to and recognizing this as a path worth walking. I hope you will all continue to support Artisanthropy under her stewardship, and support Elizabeth in her journey, as she takes over and ushers the store into its next, even greater era.

From Elizabeth:

Hi everyone I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new owner of Artisanthropy.

I am a long-time Whitby resident but my passion for the fiber arts extends to makers all across the country. For over 20 years, my professional life has been rooted in post-secondary education, and I’ve seen firsthand how transformative learning a new skill can be. I have a particular heart for teaching crochet to children, teens and young adults.

I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Christina for the years of vision and hard work she poured into building this wonderful sanctuary for makers. I wish her nothing but the very best in her next chapter.

Whether you visit us on Brock Street or shop with us from across Canada, my goal is to uphold the values of Artisanthropy: quality, creativity, and a supportive environment for every artist. I can’t wait to connect with you and see what you're creating.
