Class: Easy Peasy Colourwork

Class: Easy Peasy Colourwork

Join this class to learn a simplified 1x1 colourwork technique. You will complete a headband in the weight of yarn you choose, for the head size you choose. Techniques consist of a ribbed or rolled edge (your choice), two variations of 1x1 colourwork, and a slightly stretchy bind off.

You will develop a comfort for holding two strands at a time, knitting from each as needed to produce the design shown.

The techniques learned are easily applied to a full hat, sweater cuffs & bands, pet sweaters, mittens, scarves, socks & cowls. The results are delightful & the possibilities are truly endless.

This class is 4 x 2 hour classes.

Supplies Needed:
  • Sample pictured here is made with less than 50g each of two fingering weight yarns:
    • 1 skein self-striping or colour changing yarn (dictates overall colour flow)
    • 1 skein solid colour (complimentary, yet also high enough contrast) of same weight as yarn above
  • Needles:
    • If knitting for a baby or child: 3.25 mm 16" circular needle
    • If knitting for an adult: 3.25 mm 24" circular needle
    • If you decide to knit with DK weight or worsted weight, bring the needle 1 size larger than the size recommended on the yarn label. For ex, if label recommends 5mm, bring  5.5 mm
  • Tape Measure
  • Snips/Scissors
  • 1 stitch marker
  • Project bag to contain your materials
Notes on the yarn you pick:
Long colour change yarns will produce the longer stretches of the pattern we wish to achieve in this project. This is easily achieved with self-striping sock & fingering weight yarns. For the solid yarn, select a complimentary, but contrasting well enough with the colour-changing yarn that the two don't just blend in together.

Notes on technique for knitting in the round:
This is a great project for Magic Loop. If you choose this method of knitting in the round, bring a 32" - 47" (or longer) circular needle. The longer, the better.
Measurement:
Measure around the head from back of neck over the middle of the ears to the forehead, just above the eyebrows. Bring this measurement with you to the first class.

Note: If this is to be a gift for someone whom is not available to measure, or you wish to surprise them, bring their age to work from a standard head-sizing chart.

Safety:

Please note, for your own health & safety, we do not share tools.

We have a HEPA filter in the studio, and it will be turned on. We fully understand there are many in our community who are compromised and may need to protect themselves when out in public. Please wear a mask if you wish. Soap for hand washing is always available.
