Poppy Commemoration Project

Poppy Commemoration Project

Description: To commemorate Remembrance Day, the Artisanthropy community is planning an installation of knitted/crocheted poppies in the store at 125 Brock Street South. The installation will include approximately 500 poppies mounted on a
display visible inside and outside of the store. This installation will be displayed from Nov 1 - Nov 11, 2026. We selected a poppy pattern provided freely by St. John Evangelist Church in Elora, Ontario.  The pattern includes instructions for both knitted and crocheted poppies. We also hope to collaborate with the Whitby branch of the Canadian Legion on a possible second installation of poppies at their building. More details will follow.

Opportunity to get involved: We invite knitters and crocheters to participate in the project by creating poppies. Artisanthropy will provide the yarn and printed copies of the pattern for pick up during store hours. Please only take the amount of supplies you think you can accomplish. Please return completed poppies to the store by September 30.

We hope to display poppies every year, so they will not be returned to the makers nor will they be for sale. A donation box from the Legion for their Poppy Campaign will be available in the store for those who wish to donate.

Thanks in advance to everyone's participation in the project. Special thanks to Laura E. and Marjorie H. for their spark to get the project started.
